Ostrava has at least for short time become the capital city of European figure skating; the European Championship 2017 is taking place here from 25 to 29 January. The base for the athletes and realisation teams from more than thirty countries is the Clarion Congress Hotel Ostrava, which is benefiting from its proximity to the multifunctional Ostravar Arena, where the main programme of the four days of competition and the final exhibitions shall take place. The four-star hotel’s total capacity of 169 rooms has been reserved exclusively for the athletes. For instance, two-time world champion and four-time European champion, Javier Fernández of Spain, is preparing to defend his title here.

The biggest Czech hotel group, CPI Hotels, has turned partner to the educational programme Culinary Arts (CA). The company’s hotels in the Czech Republic have undertaken to co-operate exclusively with secondary vocational schools, which guarantee the introduction of an educational programme on Culinary Arts principles. Teaching within this educational programme in the next three years shall also involve hotel chefs and their deputies. The company announced co-operation at the press conference under the subtitle Training of Cooks in Bohemia, version 2.0. In collaboration with the CA Project, Chef Jiří Roith should ensure the vital quality interlink of theoretical and practical training in schools and practice in hotels and restaurants, where the trainees get their first experience and shape their habits into future employment in the gastronomy industry. At present, the partnership has just accomplished its first month of full operation; from September, the first group of first-year students studying in this programme should get an opportunity to test their newly acquired experience at some of the hotels of the Clarion, Fortuna or Buddha-Bar Hotel Prague brands.

The Ostrava – Mošnov Airport was the venue of NATO Days XVI and Czech Air Force Days VII. The biggest security show in Europe, which could boast a record number of 21 participating countries, was already traditionally supplemented with the closed meeting of world military and police leaders, which took place in the Clarion Congress Hotel Ostrava.

The Clarion of Ostrava was filled with children’s laughter on Wednesday, June 1. More than a hundred of children from four kindergartens in Ostrava celebrated International Children’s Day here. A tour of the hotel, including the room where the famous sprinter Usain Bolt had slept in previous years, was prepared for the children from 9 am. “I was surprised that the children knew who he was. We can see that children from Ostrava live sport from early on.”, commented with a smile the hotel manager, Radim Beneš, who personally welcomed the children.

At the Clarion of Ostrava, a gala evening celebrating the 55th anniversary of the athletics meeting will take place on the eve of the main Golden Spike race. The music star Marie Rottrová will sing in the Diamond hall for more than 200 guests. The highlight of the evening will be the cutting of a cake which will be prepared by the chef confectioner of the hotel, Kateřina Spustová.

The conference centre of the Clarion Congress Hotel Ostrava was the venue of the 27th ODS convention on 16 – 17 January 2016, where the party elected its new leadership. Petr Fiala was confirmed as the Chairman and newly, two women were elected to the leadership at the Ostrava convention. The traditional opening of the convention, with the Czech national anthem and an introduction by incumbent ODS Chairman Petr Fiala, was followed by the election of the new Chairman and his Deputies. Lunch, served at the Benada restaurant, was followed by the afternoon programme.

The portfolio of the country’s largest hotel group, CPI Hotels, expanded as the group took over the Prague Marriott Executive Apartments V Tůních as of 1 January 2016. It has also been operating the Starlight Suiten Hotel in Budapest since the beginning of December. The hotels will expand the company’s four-star hotel operations. The Marriott Executive Apartments have been renamed Mamaison Hotel Downtown Prague and joined the Mamaison Hotels & Residences brand. The Starlight Suiten Hotel in Budapest is slated to join it at some point in the future.

The trend in supporting corporate social responsibility, thanks to which many international and domestic companies take social, cultural, and environmental aspects into account in conducting their business, has also taken root in the Ostrava region. Most recently, the Clarion Congress Hotel Ostrava received an award. The hotel’s Director, Radim Beneš received the National Corporate Social Responsibility Award for 2015 from the President of the Trade and Tourism Association, Marta Nováková and MP Pavel Kováčik at a ceremony held at the Spanish Hall at Prague Castle. The gala evening was held under the auspices of Prime Minister Bohuslav Sobotka and was attended by President Miloš Zeman. Tenor Štefan Margita sang for the winners during the awards ceremony.

This year’s 15th NATO Days and 6th Czech Airforce Days, which were held at the airport in Ostrava – Mošnov this weekend, drew a record number of visitors and were once again accompanied by a closed meeting of world army and police leaders at the Clarion Congress Hotel Ostrava.

For the ninth time in a row, the junior representative team of France arrived in Ostrava, where from the end of July until almost the first half of August they completed a series of training practice and preparatory matches as part of their summer preparation for the main hockey season. The French representation, including its biggest stars Florian Chakiachvili and Rolland Phillip, again stayed at the Clarion Congress Hotel in Ostrava, which has already become a tradition for them.

This year's third annual Opel handy cycling marathon, the longest cycling race for disabled and non-disabled athletes in the Czech Republic, also included the city of Ostrava, which is one of the 24 transit points in the Czech Republic and Slovakia. The Benada restaurant at the Ostrava Clarion Congress Hotel also got involved in the race, supporting last year's winners, the 20-member Desafío team, and disabled athlete Luděk Benada, who this year is the sponsor of Pavlína Boxanová from Olomouc.

The Colours of Ostrava Festival again this year attracted tens of thousands of visitors to the Moravian city, who came to view performances by numerous Czech and foreign stars. Ostrava's Clarion and Imperial hotels also got involved in the festival fever, thanks to their advantageous locations near the site of Dolní Vítkovice, and these hotels provided rooms both for visitors to the music festival and to many of the performers. "This year, our guests included singers and musicians Aneta Langerová, Lenka Dusilová and Michal Hrůza, the iconic French reggae band Dub Inc. and American rock and jazz bass guitarist Fernando Saunders. We have been cooperating with the organising company Colours Production successfully for four years already, to both sides' mutual satisfaction," explains Radim Beneš, director of the Clarion Congress Hotel in Ostrava.

300 kilograms of poultry meat and 5 kilograms of peanut butter for the hockey players or 2,000 cups of coffee at the press centre. This is the gastronomic balance of the Clarion Congress Hotel Ostrava, which hosted the hockey and realisation teams for the group B World Hockey Championships 2015 from 1 to 15 May. The Imperial and Clarion Congress Hotels in Ostrava, which are members of the portfolio of the CPI Hotels Company held sanitary days following the championships. Facilities have already started preparations for another sports event – the Golden Spike, the main programme of which will start in Ostrava on 26 May. “At this time there is no trace of hockey at the hotel and the hotel has returned to its standard regime,” Radim Beneš, manager of the Clarion Congress Hotel Ostrava, said.

This Saturday, the first singles semi-final match of the FED Cup will take place, in which Lucie Šafářová will compete against French representative Caroline Garcia. Two-time Wimbledon winner and fourth seeded player Petra Kvitová will play the second match against Kristina Mladenovicová. The Czech team is staying as usual at the Clarion Congress Hotel, which is situated right next to the Ostrava ČEZ Arena, where the semi-finals will take place. The Czech tennis players, led by trainer Petr Pála, arrived at the Clarion in Ostrava on Monday. Radim Beneš, manager of the Clarion Congress Hotel Ostrava, personally supervised assurance of the faultless comfort of the FED CUP teams and welcomed the tennis players with a rose in his hand.

All the members of the popular Czech band Kabát, including frontman Josef Vojtek, unveiled the new song dedicated to the Czech ice hockey team at the Clarion in Vysočany. The song “Brousíme nože” (We are sharpening our blades) from the forthcoming album with hockey lyrics from the workshop of Milan Špalek was also praised by Tomáš Král, President of the Czech Ice Hockey Association, and by winger Radek Smoleňák, who admitted that the band from the town of Teplice has a number of fans on the Czech ice hockey team.

CPI Hotels organised the 2nd annual Piazza d’Oro Espresso Cup competition for the best barista (bartender) of the group. The Imperial Hotel Ostrava, Buddha-Bar Hotel Prague, Mamaison Hotel Riverside Prague and 8 regional Clarion hotels, including the Clarion Congress Hotel in Vysočany, the venue of the competition, sent their representatives to the competition. An expert jury composed of the representatives of the gastronomy section of CPI Hotels and the co-organiser of the competition Douwe Egberts assessed two competition tasks – the preparation of a standard cappuccino and unrestricted coffee drinks made according to original recipes.

A festively set table and a hall decorated with white flowers and pink valerians awaited more than 500 wedding guests at the Clarion hotel in the town of Ostrava on Sunday, 11 January 2015. The wedding date according to Vietnamese tradition was determined according to the lunar calendar and the age of the bride. The arrival of the newlyweds was announced around 6 p.m. by extravagant fireworks in front of the Clarion hotel. The bride and groom on stage first greeted the guests and then handed the stage over to their parents, who in front of friends and family wished them good luck in their life together.

The fourteenth annual Advent concert of the Gospel Christmas series took place slightly unconventionally in the congress facilities of the Clarion Congress Hotel Ostrava. This year’s concert did not disappoint and brought genuine gospel by prominent soloists and instrumentalists directly from the cradle of this genre, Washington, D.C. in America. Singer and conductor Roderick Giles was brilliant in the accompaniment of his six-member choir Grace.

The president of the Czech Republic paid an official visit to the Moravian-Silesian Region. The Clarion Congress Hotel Ostrava became his temporary home during his stay from 10 to 12 November 2014. The president's busy agenda was, as always, scheduled down to the minute. The ceremonial gala evening took place under the auspices of First Deputy Minister of the Ministry of Culture Kateřina Kalistová and of Deputy Minister of Culture of the PRC Mr Xiang Zhaolun.

The Clarion Ostrava is excited by one of the biggest aircraft and security events of the year. The 14th year of NATO Days and the 5th year of Air Force Days ACR will be culminating from 20 to 21 September 2014 with a weekend air show at the airport of Leoš Janáček in Ostrava. The air show will be preceded by an official meeting of army and police force experts at the Clarion hotel. "The hotel is nearly fully booked by participants in the NATO Days; we are ensuring facilities for a series of conferences and meetings. We are hosting leading representatives of Czech and international security systems. Due to its character the event certainly requires increased security measures," disclosed Radim Beneš, hotel director at the Clarion Congress Hotel Ostrava.

Clarion Congress Hotel Ostrava is the official partner of European Championship in Men's Baseball by providing accommodation. Matches of the basic group will take place in Ostrava from 12 September to 14 September 2014. North Moravia is a traditional centre of Czech baseball and it will host an event of similar significance after 5 years since the Academic World Championship. Clarion Congress Hotel Ostrava will become a temporary home during the championship not only to the local representative selection led by the main coach Mike Griffin, but also to competitors' teams from the Netherlands, Spain, Greece and Russia.

For the 8th time, selected French ice hockey players have chosen to hold their training camp at the Clarion Congress Ostrava. Fitness exercise of this year's 10-day training will be combined with preparatory matches with teams of Jihlava, Třebíč, Havířov and Piešťany.

The best sportsmen from all around the world arrived at the 53rd athletic meeting, the Golden Spike (Zlatá tretra), in Ostrava. Thanks to its convenient location close to the City Stadium Vítkovice, facilities were provided by Clarion Congress Hotel Ostrava, which was recently named the best hotel in the Moravian-Silesian region of 2014. Although the main meeting programme was not to start before Tuesday 17 June, the hotel had been immersed in the sports event for a number of days before the start; athletes started arriving with their teams on Friday. The Hotel Clarion accommodated over 200 sportsmen and organizers including stars such as sprinter Justin Gatlin, record holder in the long jump Mike Powell, French pole-vaulter Renaud Lavillenie or famous miler Sebastian Coe.

Within the competition Hotel of the Year 2014, Clarion Congress Hotel Ostrava was announced to be the best congress hotel in the Moravian-Silesian region, succeeding also in the category of 4-star hotels. The winner of the Congress section was elected by a professional jury; the winner of the 4-star category was determined by the public. The award of the ceremonial gala evening in Slovanský dům in Prague was accepted by Radim Beneš, hotel director at the Clarion Congress Hotel.
