Usain Bolt, Renaud Lavillenie and Ashton Eaton. These are just some of the stars that will shine at this year’s jubilee 55th year of the Golden Spike athletics meeting, which begins on Friday, May 20, in Ostrava. Preparations for their arrival are in full swing at the Clarion Congress Hotel Ostrava, which is the main accommodation partner of the meeting.
“Our hotel is completely booked out for the Golden Spike participants, all 169 rooms are occupied. Usain Bolt will be staying in an executive suite like last year, the only above-standard requirement was the provision of a PlayStation game console. Otherwise, he has always been a very modest and kind guest. He knows our hotel well, and I will personally be welcoming him here for the fourth time”, revealed the hotel manager, Radim Beneš. The executive suite on the fifth floor of the hotel is non-smoking, as is the entire hotel, there will be three rooms, a bedroom with a living and meeting area available for maximum comfort of the Jamaican sprinter. The athlete will be sleeping in a king-size bed for the first time on Wednesday, when his arrival is scheduled around five o’clock in the afternoon. Fans of the hopelessly sold-out athletics feast will also see other stars outside the Clarion, there will be participants of other disciplines coming during the week. Most of them will be meeting at the Clarion Congress Hotel on Thursday, May 19, at a gala evening to celebrate the 55th anniversary of the Golden Spike, to be attended by 200 guests. Apart from a special cake from the pastry shop at the Clarion hotel, which will symbolically portray the running oval, the music star Marie Rottrová will be performing. The Ostrava hotel is also to put on a press conference for the race, which will include the launch of the book Gold spikes, to which success the javelin-throwing legend Jan Železný will toast, besides accommodation of the participants and the gala evening. Also this year, the hotel will be providing catering in the VIP areas and Sky boxes of the city stadium in Ostrava.
