The trend in supporting corporate social responsibility, thanks to which many international and domestic companies take social, cultural, and environmental aspects into account in conducting their business, has also taken root in the Ostrava region. Most recently, the Clarion Congress Hotel Ostrava received an award. The hotel’s Director, Radim Beneš received the National Corporate Social Responsibility Award for 2015 from the President of the Trade and Tourism Association, Marta Nováková and MP Pavel Kováčik at a ceremony held at the Spanish Hall at Prague Castle. The gala evening was held under the auspices of Prime Minister Bohuslav Sobotka and was attended by President Miloš Zeman. Tenor Štefan Margita sang for the winners during the awards ceremony.
“Our long-term motivation is to support responsible and fair regional business, social, and cultural projects. To us, the prestigious National Quality Award confirms that we have set out in the right direction, both in business and in caring for our employees, community and the environment. I see this as an award not only for our hotel, but also for Ostrava,” says Radim Beneš, Director of Clarion Congress Hotel Ostrava.
The hotel supports regional producers – its suppliers include many local producers of fruit, vegetables, bakery products, and meat.
For several years, the hotel’s green management policy has included the “We Care” programme, which gives guests a choice of how often they wish to have their towels replaced during their stay. To save energy, the hotel also places its conference halls in “zero consumption” mode in the off season.
“Given that we are one of the largest conference hotels in the region, serving tens of thousands of guests every year, we understand our responsibility and want to be an equitable partner not only for our guests, but also for the suppliers with whom we do business in our region. In the coming year, we would like to make a specific commitment and donate 1% of the hotel’s revenue to charitable causes,” concluded Radim Beneš.
Aside from the Clarion Congress Hotel Ostrava, corporate social responsibility awards also went to Brose CZ spol. s r.o. and Provident Financial s.r.o. in the business sector, the Regional Authority of the Liberec Region in the public administration sector, and to the Modré dveře, z.s. Therapy Centre in the social enterprise category.
The Czech National Quality Awards programme (formerly known as the Quality Awards of the Czech Republic) has been running since 1994. The non-governmental non-profit organisation Sdružení pro oceňování kvality (Association for Quality Assessment) also organises the National Corporate Social Responsibility Award programme, which encourages organisations to meet all corporate social responsibility requirements (economy, environment, social sphere), which are part of the organisation’s management.
The effectiveness of an organisation’s operations and performance is evaluated on the basis of self-assessment, which is then evaluated by a group of independent evaluators. In addition to a prestigious award, programme participants also gain an insight into their strengths and areas for improvement. Successful participation in the programme and winning an award, or the Czech National Quality Award, document the participant’s responsible and deliberate approach, resulting in an ability to meet its customers’ requirements at an above-standard level while achieving very good financial results on a sustained basis.
